Coates wins at Croft amidst Primex staff day out
Primex Plastics treated 100 staff members and their families to a day out to support sponsored racing driver Max Coates at the Newton Aycliffe plants (and Max’s) home race of the season at Croft Circuit on the 27th / 28th July.
Primex guests were treated to first class hospitality as part of the day either in Porsche’s fantastic new hospitality set up this season or in Primex’s own exclusive hospitality unit, both located at the Sunny Out corner of Yorkshire’s premier motorsport venue.
The British Touring Car event saw Primex’s very own Max Coates competing in the Porsche Sprint Challenge, a support class to the main BTCC event. Max’s race though was a popular one for race fans as Max and team mate Ethan Hammerton were the two local boys and both made it onto the podium in the first race of the weekend on Saturday afternoon. Max took the win in a wet race one which saw him climb up from 2nd on the grid to lead the race with several overtakes at the high-speed esses. Ethan managed to finish 3rd which started the weekends celebrations in the best way possible. Another race on Saturday afternoon in drier conditions saw Max finish 3rd this time, chasing down the two team Parker cars ahead, Max couldn’t find a way past.
The final race of the weekend on Sunday afternoon was held with glorious sunshine, over 80 Primex guests gracing the side-lines in their new Max masks, cheering on their driver. He started 3rd and immediately jumped up a position at the start with the win now very much on the cards. A lap later his chief championship rival and race leader made a mistake and hit fluid on track which gifted Max the lead. Taking the opportunity with both hands Max stayed out front until the final few laps and crossed the line 2nd on the road, but winning thanks to a time penalty for the leader who had gone over the limits of the race track on too many occasions.
Max will race again this weekend at Donnington Park in front of some more Primex guests and goes into the weekend just a point off the championship lead. Good luck Max.
